Deeper than the Deep Blue Sea

It’s been six months since I last posted: six months! Admittedly, I’ve felt some guilt about that. However, moving back into an actual life, as in, I am once again a “contributing member of society,” takes up a whole lot of time and energy. In any case, I’ll start with the big exciting news: as of March 31, my third book, Deeper than the Deep Blue Sea, is complete, and available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle!!! This crazy book (which I honestly love!) seems to have taken forever to finish, but, as with all labor (if the mothers I talk to are to believed) the end result makes it all worth while.

Now I’m hard at work changing the title and reissuing How to Be a Redhead as What Maggie Did. Cover Sketch WMDBack in the fall I was threatened with a lawsuit over the title. I believe the threat was just a strong-arm tactic to get me to give up the title since the company doing the threatening,, is issuing their own book by that title this month. I was never approached in any official capacity, only through back-door methods such as horrible, threatening letters meant to be posted on several of my blog posts and my book page (thankfully, my blog has built-in safeguards so that couldn’t happen). One can’t copyright a title generally. Nonetheless, it wasn’t worth it to me financially or energetically to find out if they have a legitimate claim, so I took How to Be a Redhead off the market. Interestingly, there is a What Maggie Did: A Short Horror Story listed on Amazon. So although I’m 93% committed to using What Maggie Did, and it’s already listed inside Deeper than the Deep Blue Sea, there is a tiny part of me that’s still willing to make a different decision, but it would have to happen soon, because the work on the cover has been started, and I want to get the thing back up and running on Amazon by the end of the month.

I’ve already started two next novels. One continues in the world of Left Turn and Deeper, and the other is a stand-alone, working title Fortune Favors the Fair. That’s the one I’m doing next. I’ve been holding back till I had these other projects finished, but it’s running through my brain like wild horses these days, and I’m ready to saddle up and enjoy the ride!

In other news: my health has continued to improve. My memory is amazing now compared to what it was last July (and before). I have very little anxiety (a new and lovely experience!), 3ca09ffb-3613-4f29-8a01-6957a1eadb7fand what anxiety I do have, including the occasional severe panic attack, is manageable. I do still get dangerously depressed from time to time, and I know a lot of that has to do with sheer loneliness. While I have wonderful friends here in Michigan, I don’t have the kind of connection I long for with a significant other type. And I’ve lost some weight since I moved, a bit over ten pounds, and that feels good.

Also -very exciting! – I’m now learning the Argentine Tango, which is so much fun! My teachers, Amanda and Daniel from Argentine Tango Detroit, won the 2016  USA Tango Championship in San Francisco last week. Look for me there next year, haha!

Have you done something fun today?

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to
be really something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

Hi Madeleine! Which topic are you referring to? None of the things I’ve covered in this post were actually easy for me. 🙂 Is there something I can help you to understand better? P.S. I’m sorry it took me so long to reply, but for some unknown reason I missed the notification that I had a comment.

    High Sarah J,

Most books, magazines and other material will have been copyrighted with a notice in the inside cover or first page that permission to use any material contained in the writing must be approved, or just to advertise the material.

However, it is unlikely that anything you have written has not been written and published before, and any copyrighted material if not renewed after a length of time , reverts to the public domain. This is a problem for cases such as yours …. and one of the interesting cases was the use of the tune for the song:”Happy birthday to you”.

    Good morning Blithe Spirit,

Whatever you’re doing, and wherever you are, I hope you’re flying high or dancing with delight. I also hope that soon you’ll have time to write some more of your wonderful, uplifting, transformative novels!
Meanwhile wind to your wings, and wings to your (tango) dancing feet.

    Be well,

    Sarah S

I just love your books! I am rereading, Left Turn at Cloud 9, and enjoying every page. What made me stop and comment on your blog was that a friend of mine and I were flipping through the paper and came across a beginners Argentine tango class starting up this month in our area. I’d been pondering whether or not to attend when I that you had already begun your lessons last year.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better! I can’t wait for your next books to be published. I’ve read them all and am a big fan. I like the magical touches you sprinkle through your stories and the gentle way your characters care for themselves and others.
